' These books just get better and better. Is it safe to assume this is deliberate on Alexander's part, because Taran is growing up? I'm assuming. ' Less of Gurgi, and Doli is written out entirely (he's just not into Adventures anymore). We meet some new characters, some loveable some loath-able. The Author does a good job of capturing the frustration of attraction at that age. ' Finally a bit of romance, but just a very little bit. It doesn't hurt either that two books from the series are a Newbery Honor and Newbery winner. Great books, especially for younger readers. The series starts with young and inexperienced characters and over the course of the books we see how their experiences shape them. I've lost count of how many times I've read it and it never gets old. ' The Chronicles of Prydain is one of my all time favorite book series. ' Short but a fun read ' - Bonsaiforlife, ' I felt a re-read was in order in honor of Lloyd Alexander. ' I think these books are great, and they keep getting better, but I have to remind myself that they are indeed written for juveniles, which explains Taran's whiney angst, and what always seems the deus ex machina intervtion of Gwydion. I love the reading of James Langton with his Welsh accent on Recorded Books.' A gripping, well-written and imaginative tale. The group sets off on a dangerous mission to rescue Princess Eilonwy from an evil enchantress in all of Prydain. Prince Rhun, a rather weak young man who becomes Princess Eilonwy's intended husband, much to Taren's distress, enters the story. The reader especially sees that growth in Princess Eilonwy and Taran, the Assistant Pig-Keeper.

'The characters are wonderful, each having the same distinctive characteristics of the other books, only they are growing more mature. They encounter great forces of enil as well as private-sometimes painful-revelations in the course of their journey. Eilonwy's loyal friends-Taran, the Assistant Pig-Keeper Flewddur, the bard and Prince Rhun, her intended husband-realize her peril and set out on an exciting and terrifying mission to rescue her. Shortly after her arrival on the Isle of Mona, something sinister and secret befalls her. Because Eilonwy has magical powers, she is sought by Achren, the most evil enchantress in the land. In the imaginary kingdom of Prydain, Princess Eilonwy must leave her friends to go to the Isle of Mona for training as a proper princess.
